Are You Willing To Let Go?
So many times we complain about the past, we worry about what we went through and then ignore/ fail to live in the present while worrying about the future we might not get to live the way we are meant to for failure of not facing it with the right attitude which is gratitude other than regrets of the past.
A wise man once said, “Yesterday is gone, Forget it! Tomorrow does not exist, Don’t worry about it. Today is here, let’s carry on; let’s therefore give thanks to God for his showers of blessings over us.” (Gift of life, resources and ability to be able to access and read this, a brand new day, etc)
If you do not forget about the happenings of yesterday, you won’t be able to live in the present as your mind will be rooted in the past which will deprive you of the joy each day brings.
Some few years back, I learnt the secret of living from a phrase I heard in a Chinese movie “drop your burden, set yourself free” . In plain terms, ‘let go of the past and live in the present‘.
Isaiah 61:3 (NKJV) says The Lord will give us “beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;” but what I have found out is that most times, people want to hold on to the ashes as a reminder of what they have been through, they want to be able to tell their story from the ‘victim’ point of view rather than trading their ashes for beauty and telling their stories from the ‘victory’ platform.
Do not let the devil leverage on your ability to hold on to the past, so as not to bring back old sins which the Lord has forgiven you and forgotten about. “As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our sins from us” (Psalm 103:12 GNT). Do not bring them back by holding on to the past, let it go and let God.
I want to encourage you this morning to drop your burden and set yourself free; exchange your ashes for beauty, your mourning for the oil of joy and your spirit of heaviness for the garment of praise.
Prayer: Dear Lord, fill me with the grace and strength I need to be able to let go of my past.
