The Friend Code

A Yoruba adage says “if two siblings should go into a room together and they come out smiling, then they are yet to tell themselves the truth”. This same saying goes for friends too ‘cos friends are the siblings you’ve got from another mother.

Friends are meant to watch each others back, tell themselves the truth even if it will hurt at the present moment, the good thing about doing right is not always for the immediate but for the future. Friends are meant to be our little earthly angels who are to guide us and see to it that we always strive to do the right thing at the right time at the right place and at the right proportion.

Proverbs 27:5-6 (GNT) says

“Better to correct someone openly than to let him think you don’t care for him at all.  Friends mean well, even when they hurt you. But when an enemy puts his arm around your shoulder—watch out!”

Its important to be careful and watch out for frenemies; enemies that come in friends clothing. They seem to always want to make us happy even at the expense of our doing good which will always come back to hurt us.

Paolo Caelho says “Telling the truth and making someone cry is better than telling a lie and making someone smile”. Whenever we lie to make a person smile, what we are actually doing is helping that person postpone the crying s/he is meant to do now to a later date and since you know that the longer a person believes in a thing, the harder it is to come to terms that what they believe in is all a lie but the truth that’s said now, even though might bring tears to the eyes, it will always put a smile on ones face in the future.

Here is the trick, the truth about lying is that whenever the person or those we lied to find out that what we told them was all a lie, then all what we have ever told them and all we will ever tell them will all seem like lies. Anytime we open our mouth, even if its just to yawn, the first thing that will pop in their mind will be, ‘s/he’s about to tell a lie’.

Be a good friend, be a caring friend. Learn to always tell your friends the truth in love and remember to always STAY HAPPY!
Cheers!
