You Are Already Naked – Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish

Hello friends,

Its Monday once again and its back to work. I know you all don’t want the holiday, the celebrations and the merriment to end but as with everything that has a beginning, there must be an end.

Sometime ago, I read the words of a man who was considered privileged to plan for his own death. Those words were more than making a statement nor stating what his motivation was. I believe what he was simply saying was that we all should always stay motivated and unafraid of failure as we go about doing the things we love to do.

This man in one way or the other has influenced all of our lives, he made possible what we refer to as PC (Personal Computer), which is the basis of what we refer to as smartphones today and he is the brain behind the popular luxury computer brand known as Apple, maker of Mac, iPad, iPhone, iPod, etc.

This man knew what failure is, as he was unceremoniously removed from the company he started, though he came back later to turn around the way things were done and put the company at the forefront of its industry.

I will like to share with you today those same words I read few years ago that changed my perception of things, rather than see death as an end, it is important we see it as a means.

He said,

“Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart… Stay hungry, Stay foolish. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on.”

Steve Jobs death was announced by Apple (the company he started where he was unceremoniously removed) in a statement which read:

We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today.

Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.

His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.

Noticed how his failure was no longer an issue?

Failure has no friend but success have got loads of acquaintances, so STAY HUNGRY, STAY FOOLISH…. YOU ARE ALREADY NAKED, THERE IS NO REASON NOT TO FOLLOW YOUR HEART.
