Make Peace

“So if you are about to offer your gift to God at the altar and there you remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar, go at once and make peace with your brother, and then come back and offer your gift to God.”
Matthew 5:23-24

The key phrase in this verse is ‘there you remember that your brother has something against you‘.

Noticed how it is not written as you having something against your brother but your brother having something against you.

Who has something against the other doesn’t really matter, what matters most is the promotion of and acceptance of peace between both parties.

We humans have set a certain standard for ourselves and we will rather go for war rather than settle for peace. The one who is right or who is perceived to be right is said to have a right to stand and fight for his right but the Lord says ‘there you remember that your brother has something against you, go at once and make peace with your brother‘. He did not say let your brother make peace with you but go and make peace with your brother, knowing fully well that your brother is the one who has something against you and you have got nothing against him.

You might say you are not giving anything to God just yet but how about the prayer of thanksgiving? Ain’t giving in it? How about singing songs of praise? These are our gifts to God. We can not give God chocolate nor popcorn, neither can we give God vegetables not ice creams, God eats none of these things but what we can give to God is a heart full of praises and a mouth full with thanksgiving.

What does this mean?
This verse simply means that as individuals and as a child of God, we have to be agents of peace. We must actively seek and make peace everywhere and anywhere we find ourselves.

Peace does not come naturally, if it does, I’m sure we won’t have so many wars going on all over the world today.

Peace comes as a result of conscious and deliberate efforts to settle our differences, perceptions or wrong beliefs about one another.

Make that deliberate and conscious effort today and be an advocate of peace. Settle the dispute, misunderstanding or wrongful perception of you with your neighbor, colleague, friend or acquittance.

Without peace, there’s no love and without love, happiness can’t exist.
