“What you say can preserve life or destroy it; so you must accept the consequences of your words.” ~ Proverbs 18:21 (GNT)
Words are like eggs, once they drop, you can not pick then up. Hence, It is important you choose your words carefully ‘cos what you say now determine what happens next.
Sometimes I wonder why job interviews have to be in the form of chats or story telling. They are so particular about hearing you speak, your choice of words and communicating ability. Rather than putting you on a real test on the job, they put you on the verbal/ spoken words test. They judge you based on what you say and how you say it and not based on your dress sense nor your ability/ skills on the job.
We all know the saying “Never judge a book by its cover” and since we are not expected to judge a book by its cover, the next available option to use in judging the book are the words it contains. Even if we go with book reviews, these reviews are not done in isolation of the words in the book.
We can then relate this saying to mean ‘never judge a man by his appearance‘. His choice of words are a reflection of who he is and what he will become.
A man is a product of his thoughts (Proverbs 23:7) and his words are part of the plans he has in his heart (Matthew 12:34, Luke 6:45). This means that our words are what defines us and the determinants of our future.
Be careful of what you say and how you say it for the power of life and death are in the tongue so choose your words wisely and tame your tongue.
