‘First impression last long‘ and ‘The way you dress is the way you will be addressed‘ are two sayings that indicate the way and manner we relate with others.
There was a time I had a discussion with some of my friends about going to church and meeting a Pastor with all his visible body parts filled with tattoos, if they will be comfortable with the prayer of a Pastor like that.
It was a lengthy discussion and already leading to a kind of argument as most people said they will not allow such a Pastor to preach to them not to talk of praying for them when someone said “how about if the Pastor was a biker before giving his life to Christ?”
As we all know, most bikers love tattoos and the fact that he has a tattoo does not condemn him to a life of sin. Rather, the tattoo will act as a physical evidence for all those who hear his story.
As humans, we are always quick to judge based on what we can see but as a wise man once said ‘never judge a book by its cover‘. This I believe translates to ‘never judge a man by his outward appearance‘ but as man still find it difficult to pick a book with a boring cover to read once he has no prior knowledge of what it contains, so also do men find it hard not to judge people by their appearance as they believe that one’s appearance most times are what builds first impressions.
In 1Samuel 16; Samuel also made same mistake when he saw Jesse’s son Eliab, he thought Eliab was the one God has chosen all because of his outward appearance
But the Lord said to him, “Pay no attention to how tall and handsome he is. I have rejected him, because I do not judge as people judge. They look at the outward appearance, but I look at the heart.” ~ 1Samuel 16:7 (GNT)
