Negative Preaching

We all at one point or the other received a message which is said to be the word of God but ending with sentences like ‘send this to 10 people and a miracle will come your way‘. Some even go further to state that ‘if you do not send this message to people something bad will happen to you’ while some try appealing to your emotions just like the one I received some few minutes ago stating that ‘Jesus said ‘if you are embarrassed of me, I will also be embarrassed of you before my father’

To the best of my knowledge, God is not a magician and in fact, he never for once told any of those he preached to that they should go ahead and preach same message to others in 10 seconds so as to receive a reward and if not, something bad will happen to them.

I can liken this type of messages to the temptations Christ suffered in the wilderness after fasting for 40 days and 40 nights after which he was then hungry. Those who send this type of messages know that the world is hungry for a miracle so as Satan tried to capitalize on Jesus hunger, they also want to capitalize on peoples hunger for a miracle.

Let me break it down a bit

The message states ‘if you send this message to 10 people in 10 seconds, a miracle will happen to you’.

Remember Satan told Christ that he will give him all the kingdom of the world and their glory if he (Christ) bows down to worship him (Matt 4:9), it is this same way and tactics they employ in the messages where you see things like ‘send this message to people and a miracle which you have been looking forward to will happen to you’.

Our God is a good God. Remember, the bible says

“The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.” ~ Proverbs 10:22 (NKJV)

This makes one to wonder why people are trying to add sorrow to the blessings of God by adding to the messages that if it is ignored, a bad thing will happen.

Yes, they might be doing it to get the message across to a wider audience but is adding sorrow to a message that is supposed to convey the truth a good approach?

You can not right a wrong using a wrong. You can not help a country by stealing from the corrupt politicians and giving to the poor. So also you can not preach the word of God by making use of it wrongly. What is bad is bad and must be treated as bad.

Negative preaching is bad and it destroys peoples faith and emotions. Negative preaching takes the message from being Gods peace and love to being an instrument of threat/ force. Negative preaching takes the message from being Christ’s love to being a weapon of temptation in the hand of the devil.

With negative preaching, you are simply depriving people from reading the good news you want to pass across, rather they (just like me) will prefer not to read and just delete the message immediately.

Yes! I know it is the word of God but is it been used in the way God wants? Remember the story in the book of Matthew 4 when the devil was tempting Jesus;

“Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’” ~ Matthew 4:5-6

If we were to be the one, we would have jumped without saying a word. That’s what we do when we get this type of messages, we go ahead and send them out to people so that we can enjoy ‘the miracle’ but how did Jesus react to this knowing the words of God were being used wrongly;

“Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God” ~ Matthew 4-7

Knowing fully well that we are not to tempt the Lord our God, why then do we encourage these kind of messages by passing them on, thereby tempting the Lord our God.

The truth about Gods word is that it is the truth, it is peace, it is love and it is life. Gods blessings are pure blessings, there is no sorrow attached to them.

I will like to encourage us to preach Gods word in truth and in love, not using/ adding threats to them ‘cos where threat is involved, people are always concerned about escaping the punishment rather than doing what is right. We should also stand up and be counted for what is good, let us stop passing this kind of messages all around as it is the devils goal to get us all scared and exploit that to get close to us.

we are to always stand up for what is right no matter where it is coming from or who it is coming from

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” ~ 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)
