Is Masturbation A Sin?

image

Few days ago, while I was scrolling through my twitter timeline (TL), I saw a question where a girl asked another if masturbation is a sin and for her to back it up with scriptures.

This has become a common trend. Earlier in the week, I saw a question where another girl was being asked by a guy if hell is real and for her to back it up with scriptural passages where hell fire was mentioned ‘cos he was sure there was no mention of hellfire in the Bible. (a discussion for another day).

Opportunities they say comes but once and this question posses itself as an opportunity for me to share the word of God with those who seem ‘to seek’ it and possibly with a larger audience comprising of my followers and their followers so I went ahead to share my understanding about masturbation with them.

Though she did not allow me start before she said bye after I asked to know what she understand by masturbation and if it is morally right but that did not stop me from sharing with her what I understand and know is the truth, so I went ahead to tell her what masturbation means, the moral stand on masturbation, how it is sexually immoral and what God’s word said about sexual immorality.

MASTURBATION is the self-stimulation of the genitals to achieve sexual arousal and pleasure, usually to the point of orgasm (sexual climax).

STIMULATION: an action or thing that causes someone or something to become more active or enthusiastic, or to develop or operate.

SEXUAL INTERCOURSE: includes any physical contact involving stimulation of the genital organs of at least one person.

It is important to point it out that though it is possible that one person be involved in the act of masturbation, it is however impossible for an individual to masturbate without thinking of the act of sex and you can not think of the act of sex without thinking of the opposite sex or think of another person as being involved in the act with you. This thought has made it two individuals involved in the act even if it is just one person that’s physically present, the other is in the imaginary/ ‘feel believe’/ spiritual world.
Note that this other ‘feel believe’ person does not have to have a recognizable face nor known to you physically nor even have an identifiable personality, once she’s in your mind, she becomes your sexual partner at that moment.

The Bible says

“Avoid immorality. Any other sin a man commits does not affect his body; but the man who is guilty of sexual immorality sins against his own body.” ~ 1 Corinthians 6:18

Is Masturbation immoral?
First, let us understand what immoral means.
IMMORAL means not conforming to accepted standards of morality.

MORALITY means manners or proper behavior. It is the differentiation of intentions, decisions, and actions between those that are distinguished as proper and those that are improper: In other words, it is the disjunction between right and wrong.

So is masturbation immoral? Does it go against your acceptable moral standards?
I will want you to think about this, if a Pastor is said to be caught masturbating, what will your reaction be, how will you look at such a Man of God and what will you think of his ministry?

Remember,

God wants you to be holy and completely free from sexual immorality.” ~ 1 Thessalonians 4:3
